When Are The Captain Lord Mansion Summer Garden Parties?

Come to Our Garden Party!

Table_2

This will be our second summer hosting complimentary wine and cheese "Garden Parties" by the waterfall in our beautiful garden.  Shaded by the ancient Chestnut Trees, we’ll sip wine and share our 32 years of innkeeping knowledge of the area and get to know our guests in a more relaxed setting.  Most Saturday evenings beginning at 5:00 pm stroll out to the gardens to find other couples engaged in animated conversations.  Join us for a relaxing getaway at the Captain Lord Mansion some weekend this summer and add a garden party to your escape.  If the weather doesn't permit fellowshipping in the garden, we'll gather in the Mansion's large "Gathering Room".  See you by the waterfall!  Your innkeeper, Rick Litchfield

What are Fantastic Fortune Cookies and Where Can You Find Them In Kennebunkport?

Cindy of FFC
Cindy Francis, founder of Fantastic Fortune Cookies

The secret to "Fantastic Fortune" Gourmet Cookies are their great taste and fun size.

"Fantastic Fortune" cookies are the same shape as a typical fortune cookie but they are about the size of a grapefruit!  They have the classic crisp fortune cookie texture and consistency and even a trace of traditional fortune cookie essence, but they are absolutely delicious.  Click on the link to read all about these "Fantastic Fortune" cookies.

MINI-fortune cookies

Our slightly smaller fortune cookie, the “Mini”

Don’t let the name MINI fool you. These are generous gourmet fortune cookies about the size of a large naval orange. They have a general good fortune inside. Each cookie is cello wrapped and heat sealed and tied off with a colorful polka dot ribbon.

During the Month of February, as part of our "February is For Lovers" marketing effort, the Captain Lord Mansion located in Kennebunkport, Maine will be giving away a Mini "Fantastic Fortune" Cookie with each room rented.  Each cookie will contain a surprise gift. The different offers include a free night at the inn, a free spa treatment at the inn, a free CLM limited edition coffee mug or a $25 discount coupon. We look forward to seeing you in February and happy fortune hunting!  Your innkeeper, Rick Litchfield

Winter Wine Tastings

During the winter, we enjoyed the company of many of our guests who availed themselves of our monthly "Winter Wine Tastings".  Our travels with our palettes took us to Italy, California and France.  We are planning to repeat these tastings each month next winter beginning in December.  The first one will be on Saturday, December 19th.  These complimentary tastings of 4 different regional varieties begin at 5:00 pm and usually last about an hour and a half, giving guests ample time for going out to dinner to one of our fine local restaurants.  The January tasting will be Saturday, January 2nd; February will be Saturday, February 6th; March will be Saturday, March 6th and the last one on Saturday, April 3rd.  We look forward to discovering the wines of New Zealand, South African, Spanish and New York State.

Wine Tasting  Wine Nook 001

What could be more fun for a true wine enthusiast than a complementary tasting of different wines in a romantic atmosphere with a knowledgeable host and good company?  Bev and I look forward to these gatherings as much as our guests do.  We hope that you will plan a romantic escape to the Captain Lord Mansion or our sister property, The Captain's Garden House.  See you soon.  Your innkeeper, Rick Litchfield

We Honored One Mom with a Kennebunkport Vacation! And The Winner Is!

We Honored One Mom This Past Mother's Day With Her Own Customized Bail-out Package!

Mothersday_pagepic_03

We received 55 nominations for moms for Captain Lord Mansion’s “Mother of the Year” award!  We were blessed with all these entries to review and over which to agonize.  We certainly have been made aware of many equally-deserving mothers, most who have made life-altering sacrifices for their children and grandchildren.  It is obvious that mothers generally will give up their own comfort and security to serve in a wide variety of self-sacrificing circumstances so that sons and daughters might learn life skills or have the opportunity to serve their own children.  Our decision was very difficult and made with much prayer.  We wish we could recognize all the nominees in some fitting manner.

However, we are pleased to tell you that Leticia Gomez is our “Mother of the Year”.  Leticia is from Texas. The reason we chose Leticia is that she showed extraordinary grace and unconditional love in dealing with her step children during your early years.  Leticia's step-daughter Cassandra nominated her with a terrifically loving and moving essay. Not every mother can withstand the hurts caused by difficult step-children.  Leticia’s actions, love and forgiveness were modeled 2,000 years ago by Jesus.  Although many people strive to model our lives after His, it is not easy to put into practice what He taught. She is like Him in her actions! Praise God for her.

What is better than free?

I know it is on the homepage of our Captain Lord Mansion website, but I just can't talk about it enough:

Come for any two nights in March and get the third night for FREE! 17

And I'm not talking some obscure weeknight that is inconvenient.

This special applies to weekends, too. Basically, rates start at $177 a night mid-week and $228 on weekends.  Why not just go ahead and add another night to your stay on us?

This special involves a little human contact, however.  In order to get the free night, you must make reservations by calling our toll-free line, 800-522-3141.  Reservations for our specials cannot be made online.

True, it is still a little snowy. But, think about this: This past Sunday, temperatures reached the mid-50s with blue sparkling skies. And there were PLENTY of parking spaces available at the beach. Sometimes, Maine is just as lovely in spring as she is in summer.

Oh, and if you need more incentive, think about this: On Saturday, March 14, we'll be offering our guests a complimentary tour of The Landing Boat School (clickable link) which I blogged about sometime ago. And, guests will also get reduced price tickets to the Maine Boat Show, going on that weekend in Portland (our big city to the north).

A great time for boat enthusiasts to vacation, learn and save some money!

Ahhhhh....L'Amore...Images

The season of love is upon us here at the Captain Lord Mansion.  True it is cold outside. But our Valentine's Day special should warm the heart.

Did you know we offer a special package just for couples for this heartwarming holiday?Images

How does a warm room, bubbly whirlpool tub, chocolates, champagne and romantic music sound?  Wouldn't you like to treat your sweetie to a night or two free of stress, full of relaxation and a morning breakfast served in a welcoming dining room (one she didn't have to cook or clean up after)?

We'll help you with that.  You can view the package in detail on our getaway specials page.  Basically, for just $187 a night (plus taxes), you can treat your sweetie to the ultimate in luxury. And love.

And, should you be considering popping that all important question, or have a special sentiment in mind, let us know. We will do everything we can to make your special idea a splendid success. A diamond ring precariously placed in a champagne glass? You bettcha!  A poem read for her out loud the fire light in the gathering room? Done!

Not Too Early to Think About a Maine Holiday Vacation!

Although the holiday shopping season isn't officially underway, it is certainly not to early to think about holiday plans, including a short Maine vacation.  Sign-winter_150x

I bring this up because here at The Captain Lord Mansion we have a couple really great specials for the holiday season that go fast.   Exterior_006_tb
Tree_20
The first: Did you know that saying with us on Christmas day is free?  It is our gift to you.  And it doesn't Nativityrequire much.  All we ask is that you reserve 2 days on either either side of Thursday, December 25th and Christmas Day is complimentary!  As best we can, the staff here at the Mansion will try to infuse your stay with as much Christmas cheer, tradition and ambiance as possible.

Remember, each of our rooms has a lovely and warm gas burning fireplaces and toasty heated bath floor. During this festivee season, our inn is wrapped in lush decorations of ribbons, boughs, garland and fruit.  And we promise to treat you better than Santa Claus would!

The secoGlasses_party2nd: If you can't make it to be with us for Christmas, and we completely understand if you can't, maybe consider spending New Year's Eve with us. We have created for youa New Year's package that will be sure to ring in 2009 with all the glitz and glamor of the elite. We can't promise you a party like the kind in Times Square, but we guarantee you'll eat well and leave feeling spoiled.  This 2–night Holiday Package (Dec. 30 and Dec. 31) starts at $239 per couple per night plus $149 for Dinner, Raw Bar, Wine, Champagne Toast and desserts. Plus you are certain to say good-bye to 2008 with good company.  The only thing we can't help you with, however, is finding that first kiss of the new year. Mistletoe

And of course, if you miss these specials, don't fret. Because when you come visit us at the Captain Lord Mansion, it's a holiday no matter what time of year.

Everything's Coming up Rosy Red.

Did you know that lobsters are really greenish brown, and not red, when they are pulled from the bottom of the sea? (They turn red after they've been cooked). Lobster

Or, did you know that the beautiful, fragrant species of rose that lines our Maine coast is called the Rosa Rugosa? Rosa

But most importantly, did you know that lobsters and Rugosas make the perfect match? At least, they do here at the Captain Lord Mansion thanks to a couple of our very favorite neighbors.

Right now, as one of our "Getaway Specials" we offer guest the opportunity to trip aboard a working lobster boat to see how the succulent crustaceans are caught. And then, afterward, to eat the bounty of the catch.

Rugosa
The one and a half hour scenic cruise is on the classic New England lobster boat The Rugosa (named after the rose, of course). Visitors will see Maine's rocky coast, Pumpkin Island's harbor seals, beautiful "summer cottages " and the Bush compound at Walker's Point. And of course, along the way, there will be some lobster harvesting.

You'll find out how they are pulled from the ocean depths, banded and brought back to harbor for dinner.

Afterward, you'll gorge on a "Lobster Shore Dinner" at President Bush's (41) favorite seafood restaurant, Mabel's Lobster Claw.

It's only $149 per couple for a real taste of real Maine. A great price for a great trip, where everything really is rosy red.
