Are You a Wine Enthusiast? We are tempting you at the Captain Lord Mansion!

Then Join us for "Summer Wine Time" at The Captain Lord Mansion

Join Bev and I one evening each week throughout the season for our complimentary innkeeper's "Wine Time" at 5:00 pm.  We'll taste varieties of wines from our The Captain's Wine List, as well as trying new wines recommended by our distributor's representative.  He is a young man with exceptional knowledge due to his extensive travels to wine producing areas all over the world.   We'll begin these "Wine Time" get-togethers in June when our gardens are in bloom.  We have a delightful bar area located next to our waterfall garden which was created last spring.  This will be a great time for meeting other guests and hearing wonderful tales from 30 years of inn keeping!

Winter Wine Tastings

During the winter, we enjoyed the company of many of our guests who availed themselves of our monthly "Winter Wine Tastings".  Our travels with our palettes took us to Italy, California and France.  We are planning to repeat these tastings each month next winter beginning in December.  The first one will be on Saturday, December 19th.  These complimentary tastings of 4 different regional varieties begin at 5:00 pm and usually last about an hour and a half, giving guests ample time for going out to dinner to one of our fine local restaurants.  The January tasting will be Saturday, January 2nd; February will be Saturday, February 6th; March will be Saturday, March 6th and the last one on Saturday, April 3rd.  We look forward to discovering the wines of New Zealand, South African, Spanish and New York State.

What could be more fun for a true wine enthusiast than a complementary tasting of different wines in a romantic atmosphere with a knowledgeable host and good company?  Bev and I look forward to these gatherings as much as our guests do.  We hope that you will plan a romantic escape to the Captain Lord Mansion or our sister property, The Captain's Garden House.  See you soon.  Your innkeeper, Rick Litchfield

Looking for Art in all the Wrong Places? Try Looking in Kennebunkport!

Kennebunkport is home to some of the best artists in Maine.  Additionally, the Port has several exceptional group galleries that offer original works of art as well as fine reproductions.  Located just a few blocks from the Captain Lord Mansion, Mast Cove Gallery is celebrating its 29th Season. Twenty-nine years ago, gallery owner Jean Briggs began Mast Cove Galleries with only twelve artists. Today, representing over one hundred artists, it is Maine's largest privately owned group gallery. Mast Cove

Maine Art Gallery, which is owned and operated by John and Francesca Spain has two locations offering original art, prints and sculpture.

Another large group gallery is owned and operated by Charlie Wright and  is on the way to Cape Porpoise Pier.  The Wright Gallery not only has exceptional art, but has a deck from which you can view Cape Porpoise Harbor.  Also, if you go to Charlie's website, he has a Webcam that perpetually views the harbor.  Wright Gallery

Beaches, beaches and more beaches! Look no farther than Kennebunkport

The South Coast of Maine is famous for its beaches, but did you know that there are several white sandy beaches located in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport?    Kennebunkport's most famous beach, Goose Rocks Beach, is located a few miles drive from The Captain Lord Mansion.  However, it is worth the drive because it is a beautiful, long, curved, white sandy beach that is perfect for long walks, even in the off-season.  Gooches Beach and Mother's Beach are both located across the river in the town of Kennebunk.  They are also great for long walks, either on the beach itself or along the sidewalk bordering the beach.  In the Summer, our Intown Trolley goes by the Kennebuk beaches every hour; it will drop you off and pick you up.  Also, there is Parson's Beach which is located at the end of a lovely winding road lined with ancient trees.  There is very limited parking at this beach; however, again it makes a super destination for beach walking in the off-season.      Parsons_beach_425

Captain Lord Mansion Kitchen Comes Alive!

The Captain Lord Mansion kitchen is finished!  Have you ever renovated a kitchen?  Remember the old adage "the best laid plans", well we are a week overdue on opening the renovated kitchen.  But, the results are worth the wait!  The delay was caused by our not realizing the length of time required to fabricate and install new granite countertops.  Blue Rock Industries of Portland worked magic to meet our new deadline.  Installation of the countertops was done last Thursday; thus, we were able to connect the water supply to the sink Friday morning.  The gas lines to the cooktop were also completed Thursday afternoon.  As I write this, Bev is heading a team that is cleaning and moving dishes, silverware, glasses and food supplies.  Later this afternoon (Friday), David Hutchins (our maintenance supervisor) and I will move the tables and chairs and "Voila" the kitchen will be ready for action.

I didn't get to finish this blog until today.  We served our first breakfasts on Saturday morning.  We are thrilled with how clean and bright the kitchen appears.  Come soon and experience this renovation which completes all areas of the inn to receive Bev's decorating touch!  Rick Litchfield, your innkeeper
