Winter can't last forever...and sadly, nor do our pets!

Winter is loosening its grip.

But its not going to give up without a fight.

Here's how I know:  A few days ago officials from the National Weather Service and U.S. Geological Survey told us Maine reached a new low this winter: As in NEGATIVE 50 DEGREES BELOW ZERO!

The reading was taken at 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 16, waaaaaaay up in northern Aroostook County, right along the Canadian border.

It broke the old record, 48 degrees below, set on January 19, 1925 in Van Buren.

Yikes.  Just thinking about it makes me want to curl up like a cat in front of one of the many gas fireplaces we have here at the Captain Lord Mansion.

But we won't have to curl up long.  As you can see at left, the ice and snow are melting.  We've had a couple days this week that were glorious warm in the 40's!  And it has been a welcome reprieve. Soon the beautiful tulip and daffodil bulbs Bev so lovingly planted in our gardens last Fall will bloom.  Soon enough!

ON A SAD NOTE:

Bev and I lost a dear friend recently.  Our dear Boxer, Shamus (below) left this world and took with him a piece of our hearts.  We will miss him always.  He was a good friend.  May he rest in his peace.

Also read that Shamus is gone...we too lost a piece of our hearts...we had to put Cassie down about 3 weeks ago.
