The Most Wonderful Time of The Year!

Here at the Captain Lord Mansion we are getting ready for our most favorite time of the year: Christmas!

About this time, Kennebunkport starts to buzz with excitement over Christmas Prelude, our town's one-of-a-kind celebration of Christmas spirit.

This link will take you to the official website of Christmas Prelude.  But here are some of my suggestions for "not-to-miss" events during this charming time, which runs from December 5th until December 14th.
--------------------------
ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4 FROM 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM: There is a Prelude Champagne Reception at The Nott House, 8 Maine Street.  Some of you may remember an earlier posting of mine about the Nott House.  This beautiful Victorian mansion, kept true to the period of the time, is just about as nice a place as one can be to start off the Christmas season. Many of our local inns, restaurants and businesses donate goodies to make this event a smash success.  But space is limited and spots go fast. I highly recommend you call 207-967-2751 to make a reservation.  If you are planning on staying with us at that time, call our front desk - 800-522-3141 - and we'll make the reservation for you.

ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5 AT 5:30 PM– The tree in Dock Square is lit and the season officially begins.  This tree, as seen in the photo at right, is decorated with buoys and is one of the focal pieces of our holiday sparkle.  Don't miss this opportunity to do some Christmas caroling with the Kennebunk High School Chamber Singers.

IN CASE YOU MISS THAT TREE LIGHTING
: There's another at 7:00 p.m., down in Cape Porpoise, where the Lobster Trap Tree (a tree-shaped pyramid made of lobster traps) will be officially lit in Cape Porpoise Square.  More Christmas caroling makes it all the merrier.

ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6 AT 6:30 PM– Join us and many others as we revel in Kennebunk and Kennebunkports most awe-inspiring event: Candlelight Caroling hosted by the Franciscan Monastery, which is technical in Kennebunk on Beach Street.  During this event, hundreds light candles, lift their voices and sing to the Lord, songs of celebration, of promises and of babies born in mangers.  It is often a very emotional event, and one I recommend you attend.

That's enough for now!  But can you guess what will be the subject of my next post??

More Prelude!!! Until then...

And He Doesn't Even Have Thumbs!

Mutley, that's who!

I don't usually blog about other blogs, but this one deserves some howling recognition.

Mutley is the famous cyber-dog photographer who loves to take pictures of Maine.

Kennebunkport pictures, more accurately speaking, like the one at left taken on Nov. 5. The human who Mutleyhelps him post his photos, of which he tries to get on line everyday, is local resident
John Maguire, who isn't such a bad photographer himself.  You can learn more about him by CLICKING HERE.

Mutley's page though is a great way to see pictures of our beloved Kennebunkport on a daily basis.  And I wanted to mention it because many of you, our guests here at the Captain Lord Mansion wish they could be a part of our lovely seaside community all year long.

Mutley's daily renderings might just help you with that. Each of his Kennebunkport daily diary entries come with a little description written in what he describes as "a tongue in jowel style."

So, if you want a little dose of Kennebunkport's beauty each an every day, as the weather changes and as the tides come and go, spend some time with Mutley.

And make sure you book your reservations for summer, too. We can't wait to see you again.
